Neapolitan ceramic artist, she lives and works in Pozzuoli. She trained between Deruta and Naples, two historic centres of the Italian ceramic tradition, under Romano Ranieri in Deruta and Davide Carnevale in Naples, where she learned the secrets of raku pottery.
Her research is rooted in raku ceramics, complex glazes and metallic finishes: a language in which the human figure, the animal world and mechanical fragments merge into a visionary, deeply material imagery.
Each firing leaves the material a margin of unpredictability that makes every work unrepeatable: it is fire that signs, together with the artist, the final result.
Since 2020 she has been part of the Pandora association of women ceramic artists. Her works range across horns, flames, volcanoes, human figures and animals, in an explosive carnival of colourful glazes, ceramic bodies and metallic finishes of great visual impact.
Lucia is the demiurge, the watchmaker who presides over the creation of a futuristic microcosm made of ceramic and gears. A world of small creatures with undefined faces — neither men nor women, but pure human beings of manifold possibilities — who dance, read the newspaper, fly, swim, steer spacecraft and dream, giving life to the dismantled mechanics of crankshafts, connecting rods, pistons, cylinder heads and carburettors of racing cars and motorcycles.
It is the cosmic embrace of two universes dear to her: mechanics, once the realm of her husband, the love of a lifetime, and ceramics, her own. A visionary project of love and creativity, of great emotional force, that could only be brought to light by a deeply lived experience.
The colour of mercury prevails on the surfaces — called by alchemists Hydrargyrum, quicksilver. The silver, golden and bronze coatings on hand-modelled terracotta are born from mixtures of metal oxides used as glazes at over 900 °C. Whoever looks sees their own reflected image. The microcosm is fluid: a liquid reality flowing between ceramic and metal, two technologies of fire that have made Man, once again, Prometheus.
